Superheroes visit the Children's Hospital
On 21st October 2019, UCC's CEO Zsolt Szmolinka and his team brought superheroes to the children's ward at the Kenézy Gyula University Hospital's ENT Clinic in Debrecen. One of our offices is located in this city, and we have demonstrated our commitment to supporting local communities before. It was only natural to choose yet another local organisation where help is most needed.
The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinic has several hundreds of children undergoing tonsillectomy each year. This is a surgical procedure in which both palatine tonsils are fully removed from the back of throat to prevent recurring throat infections, sleep apnea and other health issues. For children, this is a very discomforting procedure where they may have to spend between 1 or 2 days in the hospital to recover.
We wanted to lighten the ward a little bit. The best way to do that, we thought, was to bring children's favorite superheroes a little bit closer to them. We made special life-size wall decals which show Iron Man, Captain America, and Spiderman among others. These brand-new looking decors are ideal to ease the little minds for a few hours.
"We are connected to the topic in many ways, and because of that we felt it is important to support the hospital. We hope this will be repeated many times in the future" - says Zsolt Szmolinka (CEO), a father of two little girls also.
In addition to the lovely, fun decals we brought a couple of new toys to the hospital's play room. This place is where children can play together during their stay. Our humble addition - a group of colorful little ponies and a cool RC car - will sure keep the little ones busy.
